Website Down Checker — How It Works
Is it down checker tests any website in real time from our monitoring servers. Enter any domain — whether it's a social media platform, streaming service, banking app, or developer tool — and get an instant answer: is it down for everyone, or just you?
What is Dual-Signal Outage Detection?
Unlike simple ping tools, Is it down checker combines two independent signals. Our servers send HTTPS requests every 60 seconds, measuring HTTP status codes, response time, DNS resolution, and connection timeouts. Simultaneously, we track crowd-sourced user reports and compare them against a 7-day rolling baseline to catch partial outages, regional failures, and CDN issues that server checks alone would miss.
What does the Three-Tier Status System mean?
We report one of three statuses for every website:
- No Problems (green) — Site is responding and user reports are at normal levels.
- Possible Problems (yellow) — Server responds, but user reports have spiked 3x above the baseline. Possible regional or partial outage.
- Problems Detected (red) — HTTP failure confirmed, or user reports are 5x above normal. Widespread outage in progress.
How many sites do you monitor?
Is it down checker monitors over 2,700 of the world's most-visited websites across every major category: social media, streaming, gaming, email, banking, cloud services, shopping platforms, and developer tools. All data is free, with no registration required.
